Motive

DN40 Dock, OVERWERK & Scott Yu-Jan

DN40 Alarm Clock, Braun

For a month, I've been using my 3D printer to exclusively print models that have already been made and posted on sites like Printables and MakerWorld. While that's all fun and good, it would only be a matter of time before I would want to start making my own prints. So, here we are.The SD-1 is my first design in Autodesk Fusion. I've been meaning to familiarize myself with CAD software for a while now, and after watching Scott Yu-Jan's video on his DN40 dock, I thought that making my own version for my phone would be a nice way to learn modeling in Fusion.

Aesthetic

Phase 1

Instead of replicating Rams' DN40, I opted for some other designs from him and others at Braun.

Older designs - the ones usually made by Rams - were typically simple and sleek. It's a striking aesthetic, but it also leaves a lot of room to develop. The flat, black rectangles that make up the face of the clock can easily be translated into a space for a smartphone.

Phase 2

Type 4937 Digital Compact

This project is currently private, but you will be able to find the MakerWorld and Printables links here when they're ready. The SD-1 was made for the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro (non-XL). Feel free to tailor the SD-1 to your device with the .f3d file.
